Конспект урока "Подготовка к собеседованию с работодателем"

1.Организационный момент. Речевая зарядка.

Good morning everybody! Nice to meet you!  Please, take your seats. Today we have the following goals:

   1.To learn how to prepare for and go through a job interview successfully;

   2. To practice the vocabulary on the topic;

   3.  To develop listening and speaking abilities.

2.Фонетическаязарядка. 

Look at the blackboard. Here are some proverbs. Match the English and Russian proverbs.

1.     Practice makes perfect.

2.     Where there is a will, there is a way.

3.     No bees no honey, no work no money.

4.     Experience is the best teacher.

5.     What is worth doing is worth doing well.

a.      Без труда мёду не едят.

b.     Там где есть воля, там есть и способ.

c.      Повторение-мать учения..

d.     Опыт – лучший учитель.

e.      Если делаешь дело, делай его хорошо.

Answers: 1 - с, 2 – в, 3 – a , 4 – d, 5 – e.

3. Проверка домашнего задания.  

Преподаватель проверяет  лексику, которая была дана студентам в качестве домашнего задания (  Приложениеи№ 1) и   показывает слайд с таблицей и  заданием подобрать к слову соответствующее определение. Студенты озвучивает свои ответы.

 4. Подготовка вопросов для собеседования:

Преподаватель говорит, что собеседование это стрессовая ситуация, и чем больше приготовлений, тем лучше.

Lecture:-“А job interview can be stressful, especially  for the first time, so the more preparation and practice you have the better.

You need to know that it is a formal situation where first impression  is extremely important.

I'd like to introduce the subject of interviews in general.

 Could you tell me at fist if you have ever had a job interviews in English?”

Если кто-то проходил собеседование, преподаватель задаёт несколько вопросов:

1) What was it like?

2) How do you feel?

3) What preparation did you make before the interview?

4) How did it go?

5) What preparation could you do before hand?

Студенты отвечают.

Преподаватель говорит, что существуют эффективные советы для подготовки вопросов и ответов во время собеседования, показывает слайды на интерактивной доске и озвучивает их.

However, there are some simple effective tips you can use to give better answers to job interview. 

Here are some tips:   

Before the interview:

- Read the job advertisement very carefully:

- Find the information about the company and prepare relevant questions;

- Prepare references;

- Plan typical job questions: make a list of questions the interviewer  might ask you and a list of questions to ask the interviewer.

- Dress in clean and professionally;

- Arrive on time for the interview;

- Switch off your telephone;

During the interview:

- Make a good first impression

- Greet an interviewer with a smile and a firm handshake and introduce yourself;

- Be friendly and confident:

- Give positives answers and be enthusiastic:

- Show interest and take notes;

- Be polite and use the interviewer`s name when speaking;

- Do not ask about your salary at the beginning of the interview;

- Do not criticize his former employer. Here are some typical interview questions:

Here are some common interview questions:

1) Соuld you tell me a little about yourself, please.

2) What are your strengths and weakness?

3) Can you describe yourself using 5 positive adjectives?

4) Why do you want this job \ to work for us?

5) Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?

6) Could you tell me about a time when you demonstrated excellent customers service?

7) Why should we hire you?

8) Why are you leaving your job \ Why have you left your job?

9) How would you describe your last employer?

5. Разбор со студентами типичных вопросов и предполагаемых ответов для собеседования:

Две студентки выходят к доске и разыгрывают диалог в виде собеседования, где одна является работодателем, а другая соискателем на должность. Остальные студенты внимательно следят за ситуацией.

The lecture says::”  Now watch the interview and get ready to comment on it.”

Interviewer: “Could you tell me about yourself? ”

Candidate: “Well … I’m 23 years old, I was born and grew up in this city. I have 2 dogs and I love basketball …”

Преподаватель прерывает беседу и говорит: «Здесь мы должны остановиться и я хочу вам  задать вопросы и дать пояснения. Она обращается к студентам:

«Скажите, пожалуйста, правильно ли кандидат отвечает на вопрос? Как бы вы ответили на этот вопрос?»

Студенты высказывают своё мнение.

The lecturer: We can stop there. I’d like to ask you if you think it is a good answer?

The students give their opinions.

The lecturer says:

“It is  the most commonly asked question in interviews. How you answer this question greatly affects the first impression you give, and it sets the tone for the entire interview.

Here are the  following tips:

Give a good first impression - Do not tell personal information about yourself. The Hiring Manager does not to want to know your personal life.

Present yourself as a professional. Good answer to this question proves why you are the best candidate for the position.

Study the job description carefully.

Highlight education, work experience, and skills that are relevant and help to prove you are the best candidate.

If you do not have working experience, think about transferable skills that you developed at college or in private life that support your answer.

Give answers in chronological order to make it easy for interviewers to understand.

Here is a good example to start your answer:

I: ”Could you tell me a little about yourself, please?”

C: ”I'm Tom Hilfiger. I'm an Assistant Manager of a four- star hotel.

I have a diploma in Hospitality of the Action Tertiary College in London.

After living the College I spent 3 years developing my skills as an  Assistant Manager, managing stuff and dealing with customers.

I also have particular experience of increasing room occupancy and producing financial statistics. Although I love my current role I feel I'm currently ready for a more challenging assignment.

That's why I'm applying for the position of a manager in your hotel. This position really excites me.”

Далее преподаватель комментирует: ”This is very concise example” (Это очень ёмкий ответ)

Дальше продолжается разбор следующего вопроса:

I: “What are your greatest strengths and weaknesses?”

C: “You see, the great thing about me is that I don’t have any weaknesses …

Преподаватель опять обращается к остальным студентам и спрашивает их искренне ли отвечает соискатель Does it sound like sincere answer to you?

Студенты высказывают своё мнение. Преподаватель выслушивает их, а потом говорит:

“Probably, not. We all have weaknesses and it is important to build a solid, strong answer:

Firstly: I’m good at working with other people.

For example: in my last job, I always tried to encourage my colleagues and create a good atmosphere.

On the other hand: I suppose I can be a little bit careless sometimes because I am not a kind of person who focuses on details.

Coming back to strengths I am very calm and can keep cool head in very stressful situations.”

I: ”Can you describe yourself using 5 positive adjectives?”

C: “ I am creative, hardworking, organized, initiative and flexible.

Здесь преподаватель спрашивает мнение студентов. Они отвечают. Преподаватель говорит, что ответ правильный.

I: ”Why do you want to work for us?".

C: “mmm …. Frankly speaking, high salary is the main criterion”.

Преподаватель опять обращается к студентам, спрашивая правильно ли отвечает кандидат. Студенты высказывают своё мнение. преподаватель озвучивает правильный предполагаемый ответ:

I: ”Why do you want to work for us?".

C: “It's a great opportunity to use the skills and experience I already have and to learn.

I: “Could you tell me about a time when you demonstrated excellent customers service?”

C: “mm … It is difficult to answer right now … I can’t remember.

Студенты высказывают своё мнение, а преподаватель поясняет, что существует метод STAR, который часто используется  при ответе на этот вопрос.

The lecture: ‘There is a an effective method we  can use here, it is called STAR:

S - situation - ситуация

T - target- задача

A - action - действие

R - Result - результат.

Let's doing example:

Situation: Last year I was working as a supervisor at hotel as Assistant Manager.

One day a customer began to complain loudly about the service at the reception.

Task: I wanted checking in to satisfy that customer without upsetting other people who were also waiting.

Action: I came up to the customer and listened carefully to her point of view. I explained calmly and diplomatically that there was a lack of staff due to illness. I reassured the customer that the case would be dealt with shortly apologized for any inconvenience and offered her to go to the restaurant and have a cup of coffee with desert.

Result: The customer calmed down and waited patiently. It was a good learning experience for me as I hadn't realized before that sometimes people just want to be listened to and acknowledging the problem and apologizing can resolve a conflict  to have a compliment from a hotel (a cup of coffee with desert) .

Here the lecture says:

“Although this is not a very impressive result, but it is a result”.

Хотя это не совсем впечатляющий результат, но все равно это результат.

I: “Why should we hire you?”

C: ”I do believe that my familiarity with the industry makes me a good fit for this position.

It will be great platform to showcase my skills”.

Я считаю, что мое знакомство с этой сферой делает меня хорошим претендентом на эту должность.

Или С: ”I don't know exactly, but the most important thing is that I continue to learn and grow in my career.

I'm the kind of person who needs new challenges to stay focused.

I might even start my own business; because that's something I've always wanted to do at some point in my life.”

I: “Why are you leaving your job \ Why have you left your job?”

C: ”There wasn't any room for growth at my previous job and there was no opportunities in the direction I wanted to head

На моей предыдущей работе не было возможности для роста и не было возможности двигаться в направлении, куда бы я хотела.

I: “How would you describe your last employer?”

C: “I liked my job and my employer.

He gave me a lot of responsibility and respected my work.

Он давал мне много ответственности и уважал мою работу.

I got a lot of skills and experience so I appreciate it a lot.

I'm grateful to my employer”.

Я получила много навыков и опыта, поэтому я это очень ценю.

I: ‘Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?’

C: “The most important thing is that I continue to learn and grow in my career.

I'm the kind of person who needs new challenges to stay focused.

I might even start my own business; because that's something I've always wanted to do at some point in my life.”

Далее преподаватель говорит, что  когда в конце собеседования работодатель поблагодарит кандидата за собеседование, в ответ кандидат тоже должен очень вежливо поблагодарить работодателя .

I: ’Thank you very much for coming. We appreciate your time.”

C: ”Thank you very much for the opportunity to interview for this position’.

Затем преподаватель говорит, что самый лучший способ для практики - это записать себя на диктофон и слушать:

“The best way to practice is to record yourself answering these questions and listen to yourself”

6. Аудирование c  целью извлечения информации. Прослушивание диалога в виде собеседования.

Преподаватель раздаёт студентам карточки, которые содержат список личных качеств, навыков и способностей, необходимых для работы как в индустрии туризма, так и в других индустриях. Студенты слушают диалог, отмечают информацию, которую они слышат в диалоге  и отвечают на следующие вопросы преподавателя:

Какие вопросы, которые мы обсуждали ранее, были заданы  сандидату во время аудирования ? 

Какими личными качествами и навыками обладает кандидат?

Какие личные качества у вас есть а каких нет?

Какие качества необходимы для работы в сфере туризма?

What questions have you heard we discussed before ?

What qualities and skills does Angelika have?

What qualities do you have and lack?

What skills are necessary for your future job?

7.Работа в парах.

L: ”Work in pairs. Make up a dialogue using Afon’s CV and her cover letter”.

Студентам даётся объявление о вакансии, резюме соискателя, и предлагается составить диалоги, имитирующие собеседование. Даётся время на подготовку.

8. Драматизация диалогов с целью обмена информацией.

Студенты разыгрывают составленные диалоги и корректируют допущенные ошибки.

9. Подведение итогов. Рефлексия. Выставление отметок. Домашнее задание.

Преподаватель говорит, что домашнее задание – это подготовка к своему первому собеседованию, используя материал, который обсуждался во время занятия.

Преподаватель: “And now students your homework is to prepare for your job interview, using information, that we have discussed during the lesson”.

Преподаватель раздаёт карточки для самоанализа, с использованием метода «Комплимент». Выставляет оценки, желает удачи и хорошего дня.

Преподаватель: “I’d like you to give you  good marks for this lesson ... Thank you very much for your attention. Good luck".
